Bulk Carriers

We manage a proud fleet of over 200 bulk carriers for some of the most reputable owners in the world ranging from Handy Size to Panamax to Capesize and VLOC vessels. Regardless of age, size or weight, the performance of our fleet is constantly optimized to the highest standards globally and is comparable to the best in the world.

Bulk Carriers are perhaps the most vulnerable among the all the vessels in the world's merchant fleet by the nature of their design, cargoes carried and trading patterns sailed. Knowing the full details and measures of each of our carriers, our team of experienced Masters and Senior Officers place particular emphasis on safety to ensure the structural integrity of a ship remains consistent.

Additionally, our shore based Dry Cargo Operations Division oversees the cargo operation in an inclusive "360" process - from the moment the cargo is preloaded, in transit, and to the time that it is safely discharged. We ensure the cargo arrives in the best and safest condition.

Our expertise in the division ranges from handling basic bulk - raw materials, heavy goods, to sensitive cargo - fresh food and all kinds of time-temperature sensitive matters.

As a key team within Fleet Management Limited, the Dry Cargo Operations Division not only play a critical role in consulting operational guidelines to be taken prior/after loading, such as arrangement of stowage and voyage, handling of short-landing, maintenance of heavy-lifting, and assessment of cargo out-turns, but also take care of administrative tasks for owners and their vessels, such as reviewing and managing the Mate's receipt, Bills of Lading, etc.

Oil Tankers

Tanker shipping is a dynamic industry that demands the very highest standards from both the managers on shore and the officers on the ships. There is no margin for error and a set of sturdy processes and trustworthy cargo operations is inherent to the success of these vessels. At Fleet Management Limited, we currently manage more than 40 Oil tankers - from MR Product Tankers to Aframax Oil Tankers to modern VLCCs - chartered to all first class operators.

Communications with the officers on board play a vital part in tanker management. The officers are trained to a very high standard, so there is little value in taking responsibility away every time a decision has to be taken. Instead, officers are led to solutions by seasoned shore based tanker professionals - part of the shore based Tanker Operations Division - who partner with onboard colleagues to keep a critical eye on every process and ensure compliance with safety with due regard to charter party requirements. 

Getting the balance right between allowing tanker officers to do the work they have been trained to do and taking responsibility from the shore is an important discipline all managers have to learn. Officer training is the bedrock of good management, so officers are brought to Hong Kong or sent on short voyages during their down time to give them a broader experience of the industry.

Training to improve seafarer skills, a weekly learning session for managers to discuss and resolve their concerns and an emphasis on tanker safety as a workplace habit have all become part of Fleet Management Limited's tanker operations.

Chemical and Gas Tankers

Chemical and Gas Tankers have been an extremely important part of our portfolio since our inception. Today, we manage over 50 Chemical Tankers from 6,700 dwt to 45,000 dwt and over 12 Gas carriers from 8,000 Cubic to 80,000 Cubic semi and fully refrigerated tankers. We pride ourselves as one of the leading Chemical and Gas Tanker operators globally. 

The best way to transport gases is in liquid form. However, the process involves routine hazardous operations and requires a very high standard of tank cleaning, such as palm oil, vegetable oils, tallow, caustic soda and methanol. It is therefore extremely important that all care is exercised as the consequences of an inadvertent error can be serious and have far reaching consequences for personnel and the environment.

Carriage of hazardous chemicals and sensitive cargo in bulk composes a niche segment in the shipping business - it requires a very specialized and sophisticated technical management as the rules and regulations to this segment are very stringent and severe. As such, chemical and gas tankers tend to entail a high initial investment, and therefore owners expect the vessels to be kept up to highest possible standards in a sustainable and profitable manner.

Container Vessels

We manage over 20 Container Vessels, ranging from 1100 TEU to state of the art 14,000 TEU, with an average age much below the global average, and a total dead-weight tonnage over 700,000. 

At Fleet Management Limited, we realize the enormous pressure of owners, operators and stakeholders face to ensure timely arrivals and departures of these specialized ships. In addition to the robust processes we have in place, we have tailor made courses that our crew undergoes to ensure safe sailings. These include simulator courses for these navigational officers and special modules for Electrical officers on Reefer container maintenance.

On shore monitoring by our Dry Cargo Operations Division on matters such as stability, stowage plans, lashing with a special focus on DG, OOG, and Reefer containers provides an additional layer of security.

This along with our distinctive technical management ensures that no time is lost to maintenance or unplanned off-hires - all in an effort to increase the earning potential of a vessel.

RORO & Car Carriers

With the increasing and prevailing shift from the traditional vehicle-producing countries to emerging industrial countries, logistics in the transport of cars is becoming more globalized and an ever growing vessel segment.

Carrying an array of modern cars and trucks in our managed fleet of 20 modern RORO and Car Carriers ranging from 3,500 to 6,500 RT - one of the largest and most modern in the world, is a core business to Fleet Management Limited.

Our meticulous considerations to environmental preservation, as well as to perform the most dedicated service in the handling of cars - entirely free of damage at all times during loading, navigation, and discharging - have what kept us to be the best in satisfying our customers' needs and setting the industry's benchmarks.

This is why we persistently train, practice, measure, and evaluate our crew so that they make the best and toughest decisions, even in the most constrained and stressful situation.

Our crew management offers a comprehensive range of manpower services such as recruitment, training, and ratings for our different vessel types - all managed by an extensive network of 13 in-house experienced recruitment offices spread across the countries, which includes India, Philippines, Ukraine and Turkey - countries that are also the primary manning sources for the world's merchant fleet.

Fleet Management Training Institute (FMTI)

We believe a good quality crew is the backbone of success and hence our eight offices in India, one in Philippines and one in China are dedicated for providing in house crewing support to our fleet together with a state-of-the-art Fleet Management Training Institute in Mumbai, India.

Founded in 1997, FMTI is a DNV-certified and officially approved maritime training centre. FMTI courses comply with the requirements of the STCW 95 Convention and the guidelines of Directorate General of Shipping, India.

In addition to the internationally renowned TOLAS (Training on Land and Sea), a web-based training system specially developed by FMTI, we employ the most technologically advanced simulators (180 degree full-mission Bridge Simulators) and audio visual aids (DGS approved), which are also backed up by real-life demonstrations and lectures, to provide seamless and fully integrated ship-to-shore training for every seafarers - a feat that no other institutes have previously attained.

Currently, our TOLAS Centers are set up throughout our manning centers in India, China, Philippines and Eastern Europe. Together, we are determined to meet the rapid and global growth of our crew and our fleet.
