The Challenge
We are looking for a highly skilled regional Ferry Superintendent with strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with others enhancing a professional culture that aligns with the maritime policies, procedures, and NC Ferry mission. This role works out of our Cherry Branch Operations facility.
In this role, you will:
⦁ Supervise our Cherry Branch and Southport operations managers.
⦁ Oversee training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of operational staff and employees engaged in piloting ferry boats and performing operational duties aboard them.
⦁ Coordinate with Vessel Asset Management to identify and schedule repairs with consideration to ferry schedules, route planning, and fleet deployment.
⦁ Make periodic inspections of vessels and operations support equipment.
⦁ Maintain an inventory of all equipment and assure adequate supplies are in stock.
⦁ Coordinate with Marine Asset Management to make repairs to slips and landings to ensure security and safety of ferry boats and cargo.
⦁ Establish and enforce rigorous safety standards in accordance with maritime regulations and industry best practices and ensuring compliance with US Coast Guard regulations.
⦁ Manage the ferry operations budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and optimal resource allocation for the district.
⦁ Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation while maintaining service quality.
⦁ Collaborate with human resources to identify employment needs for the district and to respond to personnel needs.
⦁ Supervise operation managers to ensure NCDOT policy and procedures are adhered to.
⦁ Oversee daily operations of the vessels, crews, and facilities operations.
⦁ Schedule and communicate with the US Coast Guard for vessel inspections.
⦁ Determine need for vessel dry-docking for repairs and repairs to port infrastructure.
⦁ Have work reviewed by a technical supervisor for condition of equipment, safety and efficiency of operations.
What You Bring
⦁ Working knowledge of the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to marine equipment, diesel engines, docks, and landings.
⦁ Working knowledge of State and Federal navigation laws and regulations related to ferry operations and landings.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to direct the work of employees engaged in ferry boat maintenance or operations work.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to keep an accurate inventory of equipment and property.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to prepare periodic reports related to operation, repairs, and special problems of ferry operations.
⦁ Experience creating planning assignments and supervising a diverse team of ferry operations managers, crew members, and support staff.
⦁ Discretion and judgment in determining the nature of needed repairs or complete overhauls to diesel engines.
Education and Experience
⦁ Bachelor's Degree, and
⦁ 2+ years of experience in personnel, budgeting, or administrative management; or
⦁
⦁ High School/GED Diploma, and
⦁ 6+ years of experience in personnel, budgeting, or administrative management; or
⦁
⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
