Job Overview: A global integrated Energy Company engaged in the exploration and the production of crude oil and natural gas seeks a Petrel Application Support Specialist to provide technical geoscience support and mentoring to solve simple to complex problems, with key focus on Petrel. The role will also cover additional support responsibilities for other technical PC and Linux based applications. Applicants are invited with experience across a range of geotechnical applications, especially in Petrel. Working for a global prestigious oil Company you will be mentored and supported to develop your technical skills and to take on additional tasks and roles as you progress in your role.

Working within the Company’s Upstream Technical Computing group you will provide support to the Company’s geoscience community, via direct contact, e-mail, phone and site visits to satellite Company offices when required. You will be proactive in demonstrating key workflows to this geoscience community, offering advice and guidance, mentoring them to improve their usage and the productivity of the application suite.

The Company is an independent operator and has offices in 20 countries across six continents. They are also involved in the refining and the delivery of natural gas, petroleum products and electricity to the market. They continue to expand their assets and offerings to the marketplace.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager, Geoscience Systems EMEA, this role encompasses many functions including:

Become competent in the Company’s application suite, work practices and workflows. Full training will be provided.
Be proactive in supporting the geoscience user community within Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Track and evaluate support requests and maintain all support activity on the helpdesk/knowledge database.
Follow-up on customer technical issues directly with the software vendors to ensure that problems will be resolved in a timely manner.
Identify future support requirements and relay information to the relevant people.
Demonstrate key workflows to prospective clients and solve simple to complex problems, assessing all possible scenarios before selecting the most suitable solution.
Keep abreast of current and future developments of the Company’s software suite and other industry technologies.
Work in a professional and timely manner ensuring all queries are responded to with a high level of customer satisfaction.
Recommend improvements in quality of support processes and workflows.

Preferences: The successful candidate will have:

Degree in a Geoscience related subject essential. Preferably in Geology or Geophysics.
Some experience in providing Geoscience technical support within the Oil and Gas industry essential.
Experience of using or supporting the Petrel geoscience application essential.
Experience using other recognised geological and/or geophysical applications advantageous. (E.g. Paradigm, Petrosys Kingdom, Landmark, Schlumberger software).
A strong understanding of Oil Company G&G workflows essential.
Familiarity with Unix/Linux and Windows networks desired.
Excellent communications skills (both written and oral) with the ability to listen and articulate clearly, conveying effective and accurate support to the end-users.
Strong desire to advance your technical knowledge of leading edge applications.
Confident and self reliant – the ability to resolve technical queries effectively.
Efficient time management highly organised with excellent co ordination skills.
Self-motivated, able to act independently with minimum supervision while remaining a strong team player.
Adaptable and enthusiastic, and highly flexible.
The ability to take ownership of activities and the tenacity to ensure successful completion.
Enthusiasm, drive and ambition to succeed.
Willingness and ability to travel essential.
Package: Dependent on skills and experience, a base salary of £40K – £65K is on offer plus London allowance, free lunch, subsidised gym membership, plus highly attractive Oil Company benefits, including final salary, non-contributory pension.
