11 Boxes Fall off MOL Maxim at Port of Oakland

zoomIllustration; Image Courtesy: Port of Oakland Eight of the eleven empty containers that fell from the boxship MOL Maxim at the Port of Oakland on September 21 have been retrieved from the water, the ports spokesman said. The remaining three submerged containers have been lashed to the wharf and are out of the way of vessel operations. These were scheduled to be retrieved from the water on September 25. Michael Zampa, Port of Oakland Communications Director, said that there were no injuries and no contamination reported following the incident, which occurred while the 79,373 dwt vessel was docked at the port. Additionally, Zampa informed that operations at the port continued normally during the container salvage efforts. The cause of the incident is still unknown. MOL Maxim departed Oakland on September 24 and is currently sailing to Japans port of Tokyo, where it is scheduled to arrive on October 3. World Maritime News Staff
