AIDAprima Hit by Fire in Shipyard

ANDREAS LEONIDOU/Youtube A small fire broke out in the rear part of the newbuild AIDAprima cruise ship, owned by cruise line company AIDA Cruises, in the evening hours of January 11, the cruise liner has confirmed in a statement to World Maritime News. AIDA Cruises said that the fire on board the vessel, being built at Mitsubishi Yard in Nagasaki, Japan, broke out for reasons yet unknown. Crew and yard workers were evacuated straight away. All necessary measures were taken, to immediately stop the smoke development. Thanks to the fast reaction the situation was resolved quickly and the fire extinguished, the cruise line company said. No persons were reported injured in the incident, and the relevant authorities are conducting investigations on the cause. Estimations on possible property damage cannot be given at the moment, AIDA Cruises noted, adding that the first cruise of AIDAprima will start on 30th April 2016 in Hamburg as planned.
