AMP, Baku Ink Deal on Maritime Sector Development

AMP The Panama Maritime Authority and Azerbaijans port of Baku have entered into a memorandum of understanding in an effort to encourage technical progress of the two nations maritime sector. Inked by Jorge Barakat, the Minister of Maritime Affairs of Panama, and Taleh Ziyadov, Director-General of the Port of Baku, the agreement between the parties was reached during the conference organized by the International Association of Port and Harbors (IAPH). Panama City is, through the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), hosting a conference by IAPH from May 10 until 13. The event is expected to focus on safety in ports, port development planning, communication and community relations, economy and finance, environment, port operations and logistics. The conference coincides with the completion of the Expanded Panama Canal, which is expected to be inaugurated on June 26. At the beginning of May the Panama Canal elected the first vessel which will transit the new canal. China COSCO Shipping’s 299.98-meter long container vessel Andronikos, featuring a maximum capacity of 9,400 TEUs, was chosen during a draw held at the Panama Canal Administration Building. The first commercial transit reservation was granted to a 230-meter long liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker Linden Pride of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line). World Maritime News Staff
