APL Boxship Hits Gantry Crane at Port Said, No Injuries

zoom A Singapore-flagged containership owned by APL struck a ship-to-shore gentry crane while berthing in Egypts Port of Said last week. The incident has been confirmed to World Maritime News by an APL Spokesperson, saying that on 27 October 2015 at 1642 hours local time, APL Temasek came into contact with a gantry crane and a navy barge while berthing at the Suez Canal Container Terminal at Port Said in Egypt. As informed, there have been no injuries or pollution reported. Local media reports said that the crane has sustained substantial damage, however; APL did not provide any details on the extent of damage as investigation is still underway. APL is presently cooperating with the relevant authorities and stakeholders in damage assessment and in investigating the incident. Further updates will be provided as they develop, the company said in an emailed statement. According to the latest vessel tracking data, the 2013-built cargo ship remains in the Port of Said. The vessels previous port was Singapore and the ships destination is Port of Suez, Egypt. World Maritime News Staff
