APM Terminals Leaves Houston

zoom Netherlands-based container terminal operator APM Terminals, part of Maersk Group, has ceased its operations at the U.S. Port of Houston as of July 27, 2015. This is the second U.S. port APM Terminals has left in the last three months , following the companys sale of its stevedoring business at the Port of Charleston to SSA Cooper back in May. Under the now terminated deal, APMT operated its own section of Barbours Cut terminal. The lease was transferred to the port authority effective July 24. Maersk Line, and its affiliated shipping services, SeaLand and Safmarine, will continue to call at the Port of Houston Authority, despite the APM Terminals’ termination of the lease deal at the port. The Port Authority has had a lengthy landlord-tenant relationship with Maersk at its Barbours Cut container terminal, and the company is now free to call there or at the Port Authority’s Bayport container terminal as a common carrier,” the Port Authority said. APM Terminals currently operates five container terminals in U.S. ports, in Elizabeth, New Jersey; Miami, Florida; Mobile, Alabama; Los Angeles, California; and Tacoma, Washington. Total container throughput at APM Terminals’ US facilities was 6.15 million TEUs in 2014.
