Argentinian Ports under Strike Threat

zoomPort of Rio Grande Argentinian ports may be faced with a ten-day strike should negotiations on salary hike between the countrys government and public employees fall through. Public employees in Argentina, including SENASA Sanitary Authority employees, have advised that subject to weekend negotiations with government officials, they will today (6 July) start a ten-day strike if their demands for salary increases and more are not met,  GAC said in a customer advisory. The strike could affect inward clearance of vessels as vessel hold inspection and terminal loading operations all require the intervention of SENASA employees. Land personnel involved in mooring/unmooring operations which have been subject to weekend negotiation with private company owners have also advised that they may go on strike for a ten day period from today. This strike would affect vessel mooring/unmooring operations, according to GAC. Wage talks in Argentina are a particularly difficult matter as the country suffers from inflation, which is estimated to range between 15 and 25 percent.
