BC Ferries Queen of Burnaby Back in Service

BC Ferries Canadian ferry operator BC Ferries has completed the required repairs to the propeller hub of its ferry, the Queen of Burnaby, and will bring the ship back into service on the Comox – Powell River route starting from July 29. Due to the necessary maintenance works on the vessel, BC Ferries reshuffled its other vessels to support the route until the Queen of Burnabys repairs were completed. The company said that the MV Island Sky will now return to its Saltery Bay – Earls Cove route with regular schedule back in effect on Friday, while the North Island Princess will initially return to the Texada Island – Powell River route with a modified schedule, and start its regular schedule on July 30. These schedule changes and disruptions in service were not ideal, but we are pleased the ship could get back to regular service in time for the BC Day long weekend, Mark Collins, BC Ferries’ Vice President of Strategic Planning & Community Engagement, said. The Queen of Burnaby, a 51-year old vessel, is due to be replaced early next year by the first of the three new natural gas-fuelled vessels, the Salish Orca.
