BP Reaches Deal to Sell Aframax Tanker Duo

BP British multinational oil and gas company British Petroleum (BP) has reached an agreement to sell two of its Aframax tankers to an undisclosed Greek shipowner, according to data provided by VesselsValue. The vessels in question are the 2003-built British Merlin and the 2004-built British Curlew which were disposed for USD 13.5 million and USD 15 million, respectively. Featuring 114,800 dwt each, the vessels, which were built by South Koreas shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries, have a capacity of 121,270 m3. The sale agreement for the BP Bird class tankers, which are equipped with a specially constructed and reinforced bow area to enable them to transit certain ice-laden waters, was reached on November 22, according to VesselsValue. The 251-meter-long double-hull ice class ships were a part of BPs fleet of 18 tankers with a market value of USD 270.8 million and a total size of over 1.4 million dwt. World Maritime News Staff
