Breached Freighter Capsizes While under Tow

zoom The Hong Kong-flagged general cargo ship Eastern Amber capsized on Tuesday some forty kilometres off South Koreas Jeju Island while being towed to Busan, the Korea Herald reports. The 6,563 dwt ship, breached in a collision with a sand carrier in the Yellow Sea on March 4, was being towed by the Japanese tug Koyo Maru, when two-thirds of the ship sank. Eighteen crew members were rescued after the collision with the sand carrier, with no injuries reported. The 2010-built vessel was laden with timber at the time of the accident. The ship is owned and managed by Asia Maritime Pacific, headquartered in Hong Kong. World Maritime News Staff; Image: AMP
