Bremen Express Loses Unknown Number of Containers at Sea

Hapag-Lloyd An undisclosed number of containers fell from the 8,750 TEU containership Bremen Express for reasons yet to be determined, according to German shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd. The vessel experienced rolling during a repair stop on the Atlantic earlier this week while it was sailing from Norfolk, US. Built in 2008, the boxship, which operates in the CEC service was located roughly 1,400 nautical miles west of Europe when the incident occurred. The 336-meter-long Bremen Express was able to continue sailing after reporting the loss of containers to the responsible authorities. Hapag-Lloyd said that the ship will call at a port in the Mediterranean in order to be inspected before passing through the Suez Canal on its journey to Asia. According to AIS data provided by MarineTraffic, the 103,567 dwt vessel is currently stopped at the Port of Tangier Med, Morocco. The company said that there were no reports of injuries following the incident.
