Bulk Carrier Experiences Engine Issue in Suez Canal

Shipspotting The 74,269 dwt bulk carrier MV Paraskevi experienced an engine issue which caused it to briefly ground in the Suez Canal while it was transiting on the Northbound convoy, according to data provided by Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS). GAC Egypt said that there was no grounding, but that the ship had engine trouble for some minutes. The ship, which ran into trouble at around 10 am local time, continued its voyage soon after with the assistance of Suez Canal tugs. At the time of the incident, the bulker was the last vessel in the Northbound convoy. There were no delays for the Northbound convoy, while the vessels in the Southbound convoy started dropping anchor at Great Bitter Lake until MV Paraskevi clears the canal, WSS said. According to AIS data provided by MarineTraffic, the 2003-built ship was sailing from the Australian port of Hay Point when it ran into trouble in the waterway.
