Cargo Ship Carrying Broken Glass Refloated at Margate

zoomIlustration; Image Courtesy: Shipspotting A cargo vessel was refloated after it dragged anchor and ran aground off the Kent coast, the UK, on October 8, the countrys Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) informed. The incident occurred near Margate Harbour between 30 and 50 meters from shore at around 3:00 a.m. local time. At 2.20 p.m. the same day, the agency reported that the 2,400 dwt Islay Trader was refloated at high water with the aid of a tug, and towed to deeper water. The vessel will now conduct a survey to assess its suitability for onward passage to Belgium, where it will offload its cargo and then enter a dry dock in order to conduct a full inspection, MCA said in a statement. The Barbados-flagged, 75-meter-long general cargo vessel is operated by Faversham Ships, according to data provided by VesselsValue. With six crew on board, the 1992-built vessel has been carrying a cargo of broken glass.
