Cargo Ship, Ferry Clash in the Dardanelles

Turkish Coast Guard There were no injuries reported when the 1984-built general cargo vessel MV Esperanza collided with a RoRo passenger vessel Ezine in the Dardanelles, the Turkish coast guard confirmed. Several vehicles aboard the RoRo vessel were reportedly damaged in the accident which occurred on April 3, while the ships starboard side, bulwark and hull were teared. The cargo vessel, which sustained damages to its bow and ballast tank, was subsequently towed to Eceabat. Relevant authorities will conduct a survey of the cargo vessel to establish whether the ship is seaworthy. The two vessels clashed in the late evening hours off the coast of Canakkale, while they were transiting the Dardanelles. Once the Turkish coast guard was notified, the authorities launched tugs and rescue vessels to the scene. World Maritime News Staff
