Cargo Ship Runs Aground in the Black Sea

zoom Turkish Coast Guard rescued ten seamen from a cargo ship that ran aground on Wednesday near Turkeys Black Sea port of Samsun, Deniz Haber reports. The 1985-built, 3651 DWT dry bulk carrier M/V Gulf Rio, owned and operated by Pacific Shipping Group, was en route from Ukraine to the port of Samsun carrying a load of soybeans,  when it started drifting after two of its anchors broke free due to strong winds and high seas. Bad weather prevented the rescue vessels to reach the sinking ship. As a result, rescue coordinators dispatched a helicopter which airlifted the crew trapped on the ship. No injuries have been reported so far, and the extent of the damage to the ship is yet to be determined. World Maritime News Staff; Image: Pacific Shipping Group
