Carnival Elation Experiences Power Loss off Florida

Carnival Cruise Line The 1998-built cruise vessel Carnival Elation experienced a power outage in the early morning hours on Monday and was adrift for up to an hour off the east coast of Florida, according to local media. Around 1:45 a.m. the passengers aboard the vessel were notified of the issue by the vessels captain, who also informed them that there was no concern at the time. Some of the passengers reportedly decided to prepare in case of an emergency and took life vests and went to the deck. The 70,367 gross ton ship, which was adrift some 60 miles off the coast, finally restored its power using emergency generators and sailed back to the port of Jacksonville on Monday. The exact cause behind the loss of power aboard the Carnival Elation, owned by the Miami-based cruise company Carnival Cruise Line, is still not known. World Maritime News contacted the vessels owners for details on the matter, however, they are yet to reply. According to AIS data from Marine Traffic, the cruise ship, capable of carrying 2,054 guest, left Jacksonville last night and is currently en route to the port of Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.
