Carnivals Fathom Completes Its 1st Voyage to Dominican Republic

Fathom Carnival Corporations newest brand Fathom returned from its inaugural voyage to the Dominican Republic on April 24.  Fathom began sailing Amber Cove, a new port located in the Puerto Plata region and the companys first social impact destination. While we celebrated and introduced the unique Fathom experience to our guests last week, we are looking forward to taking our guests every other week to the Dominican to continue making a profound and lasting impact for people in the country, Tara Russell, Fathoms president, said. Namely, Fathoms guests travelling to the Dominican Republic have an opportunity to take part in impact activities that include a wide range of projects focused on economic development, education and the environment. In addition, Fathoms 704-passenger Adonia luxury ship is scheduled to begin sailing on May 1 to Cuba, marking the first time in over 50 years that a cruise ship has sailed from the U.S. to the island. In July 2015, Fathom received U.S. approval to sail from the U.S. to Cuba, however, Cuban-born Americans were not allowed to visit the island by sea in accordance with provisions of a law dating back to the Cold War Era. Having been faced with a lawsuit, the company said it would delay the journey until all passengers were clear to join the voyage. On April 22, the company announced that it would sail as planned to Cuba, including with Cuba-born passengers on board, after receiving Cuban government approval.
