CHEC Bags USD 600 Million Ghana Port Deal

zoom China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), an engineering contractor and a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), has been chosen to construct a USD 600 million Free Port in Atuabo, Ghana, Xinhua news agency reports. Philomena Kuzoe, Atuabo Free Ports External Affairs Officer, confirmed to Xinhua via phone that CHEC was chosen as the main engineers for the project located some 200 miles west of the countrys capital of Accra. The new Free Port will be located in the vicinity of Ghanas first gas processing infrastructure, recently completed by another Chinese company Sinopec Petroleum. The Free Port will provide a 18.5m deep channel and three quays of varying depths from 16.5m, 12m and 9m, clear activity zones including offshore logistics, subsea fabrication, rig and vessel repair, business technology park and general business support infrastructure. Kuzoe told Xinhua that the construction of the port is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2015, and is expected to be completed in 25 months. World Maritime News Staff; Image: APA
