Chemical Spill Scare at Oakland Port zoom The hazardous materials unit of the Oakland Fire Department responded yesterday to an acid spill from a shipping container at the Port of Oakland. As informed by the fire department, the 40-foot shipping container was leaking corrosive materials of HazMat 1, 2, 3, E3 types. The container sprung a leak of about 100 gallons of a mix of nitric and phosphoric acids, according to the fire department. However, the spill was small and was handled by the on-site crews that managed to prevent the leak from spreading. There were no injuries reported. World Maritime News Staff
