China Punishes 14 Carriers for Not Reporting Freight Tariffs

Hamburg Süd Chinas Ministry of Transport has fined 14 international container shipping companies because they either failed to report freight tariffs to the ministry or were inconsistent with the reported ones. Companies have been punished with a total of RMB 2.39 (around USD 350,000). The carriers in question include Hamburg Süd, Wan Hai Lines, Wan Hai Lines (Singapore), Evergreen, CMA CGM, Gold Star Line, Heung-A Shipping and Korea Marine Transport (KMTC), along with six undisclosed companies. On January 17 and 18, the ministry instructed the eight carriers to submit rectification reports. The measures by the ministry come in an effort to maintain a healthy maritime market and crack down on a low-price competition.
