Cocaine Found in Container in Port Everglades

Port Everglades Some 154 pounds of cocaine were seized during an inspection of a container vessel at Port Everglades on February 16, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reports. The contraband was found in a burlap sack by CBP officers during an inspection of the vessels containers. The estimated street value of the drugs, found aboard the vessel arriving from Guayaquil, Ecuador, is USD 2 million. During the inspection of an empty container, a CBP canine alerted to the presence of narcotics and CBP officers discovered a duffel bag full of brick shaped objects. The substance tested positive to the properties of cocaine. The evidence was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for further processing. The name of the vessel remained unidentified.
