Dockworkers to Halt Operations at Brazil’s Santos Port

Santos Brasil The port of Santos, one of Brazil’s largest ports, will be hit by a 24-hour strike starting in the morning hours of March 21 as the ports dockworkers demand wage adjustments for inflation, the Stevedores Union informed. The industrial action is scheduled to launch at 7 a.m. and last until 7 a.m. Brasilia time on Tuesday. According to the union, the strike, which would affect activities in all terminals, could be extended indefinitely. It remains unclear which port services will be affected the most. The strike comes in light of Brazils preparations for the main commodities export season. Namely, the countrys soybean harvest is about to peak and sugar and coffee harvests are expected to make progress in the following weeks. World Maritime News Staff
