Engine Room Fire Delays PO Oriana

zoom The P&O Oriana returned to the Port of Miami on April 18 after a fire broke out in its engine room, the cruise ships UK-based owner and operator P&O Cruises confirmed to World Maritime News in an emailed statement. According to P&O Cruises Head of Public Relations Michele Andjel, the fire was a minor, localised fire in the engine room which was swiftly extinguished and at no time affected the safety of passengers or crew.  Following the incident, the US Coast Guard performed a mandatory inspection, which caused a delay in the ships itinerary, and omission of the scheduled call to Key West. Oriana left Miami at 08:00 local time yesterday morning to sail directly to New Orleans to arrive on Tuesday morning. Passengers received GBP 100 per person as either on board credit or a future cruise credit as a gesture of goodwill, Andjel said. World Maritime News Staff; Image: P&O Cruises
