ESC Urges Terminals to Release Hanjin Shippings Containers ESC The European Shippers’ Council (ESC) has called on terminals that currently hold containers because of the financial troubles of container liner Hanjin Shipping, to release those containers immediately. Namely, ESC said that the terminals should release the boxes because the stationary containers now hinder the global flow of goods, adding that it will work with the Global Shippers Alliance (GSA) in order to find a swift solution. The containers held by terminals worries businesses throughout the world, as they hamper trade flows between businesses and their global commercial partners, ESC said. GSA, which represents the logistic interests of manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers from Asia, the European Union and the United States, has also called upon all terminals that currently hold containers to release them as soon as possible. ESC said that the alliance would speak with the terminals in order to come to a solution. The move follows a recent announcement from South Koreas container carrier Hanjin Shipping that the company intends to file for court receivership due to continued sluggish conditions in the shipping market.
