Finnlines Getting Ready to Stretch Its Ships

Finnlines Finnish operator of ro-ro and passenger services Finnlines will lengthen four of its Breeze series vessels as part of the companys Energy Efficiency and Emission Reduction Investment Programme. The lengthening operations would be undertaken on MS Finnsky, MS Finnsun, MS Finntide, MS Finnwave. The modification work will start in September 2017, one vessel at a time, according to the company. The close to 30% capacity increase will considerably reduce the fuel consumption per transported unit compared to the former running of the vessel. This further improves energy efficiency and thus contributes to reducing emissions, Finnlines said. The first vessel to be converted leaves for the shipyard on September 25. The conversion of each vessel will take them out of service for some 9 weeks, during which the capacity of some routes is reduced temporarily. Finnlines informed that the routes which would be affected include Uusikaupunki / Turku-Travemünde v.v.; Hanko-Rostock v.v. and Helsinki-Rostock / Aarhus v.v.
