Finnlines to Gain from Port of Naantalis Berth Extension

Port of Naantali Shipping operator of RoRo and passenger services Finnlines expects to benefit from the Port of Naantalis expansion project as it would enable the companys larger vessels to enter the port.  The Port of Naantali has started a construction work to extend an existing quay from 178 to 228 meters in order to create additional vessel handling infrastructure. This will support Finnlines’ plans to expand its traffic between Finland, Åland and Sweden, ensuring more efficient use of the harbor, the company said. The construction work started in September 2017 and the works are scheduled to be completed by the end of April 2018. According to the port, the ongoing port investment program will amount to approximately EUR 4 million (USD 4.7 million). What is more, Port of Kapellskär in Sweden has also been expanded and has now five modern quay-berths. “These investments in Naantali and Kapellskär support our strategy to optimise the use of our vessels and routes. This also enables us to develop our traffic between Finland, Åland and Sweden and the use of all our vessel types and more flexible use of the fleet. These investments will strengthen Finnlines’ services, Tom Pippingsköld, CFO of Finnlines, commented.
