Fire Breaks Out on Board Fugro Symphony, 84 Evacuated

zoom A fire broke out early this morning on board a Furgo offshore support ship, the Fugro Symphony, while the vessel was in Peterhead harbour, the UK. Fugro confirmed that 84 crew members were evacuated from the ship and taken ashore. There were no injuries reported. As a precaution all non-essential personnel onboard were immediately evacuated. No-one was injured, the company said in a statement The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was rushed to the scene at around 3am and it took them around two hours to put the fire under control. The cause of the fire is unknown, however initial findings indicate that the fire broke out in the lower decks of the ship. All personnel returned to the vessel once it was confirmed safe to do so. A Fugro team is onboard to investigate the cause of the incident, Fugro added. The Fugro Symphony is a purpose built ROV support vessel specifically designed for servicing deep water remote intervention, construction & survey markets. The 6500-ton vessel was built in 2011 and is flagged in Bahamas. World Maritime News Staff
