Fire-Stricken Car Carrier Gets Nod to Leave UK

A fire inspection and inspection of cargo on all decks aboard the 19,844 dwt vessel, which was launched last week, was finalized on March 4, according to the ship’s owner American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC). The US-flagged car carrier was berthed at the Port of Southampton on February 24 after it caught fire in the English Channel earlier that day. At the time of the incident the 49,814 gross ton was en route to Baltimore from Southampton. ARC earlier informed that there were no reports of injuries to the crew, adding that the 1996-built ship was operating under its own power after the fire was extinguished.
