Fire-Stricken Car Carrier Reaches Germany, Readies for Repairs

zoom The fire-stricken car carrier Courage has arrived in German waters off Bremerhaven where it is scheduled to enter a specialist yard for repairs. Based on the latest vessel tracking data by Marine Traffic, the ship is currently anchored some 32 nautical miles off Bremerhaven. The ship arrived in Germany having been given clearance from the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) that inspected the ship on June 15. The US-flagged car carrier departed Southampton on the same day at 6pm. The car carrier, owned by American Roll-On Roll-Off, had suffered a fire on one of its decks on June 2nd. Crew members used an inbuilt CO2 system to flood a large area which they believed had put the fire out. The fire is believed to had spread over four decks. Investigation into the cause of the fire along with full damage assessment will be resumed in Germany. World Maritime News Staff
