GAC: Four Dead in Bosphorus Strait Collision
GAC Four people were reported dead following a collision between a bulk carrier and a coastal safety boat at the southern entry to the Bosphorus waterway, according to GAC. The incident, which occurred at 8:40 a.m. (0540 GMT) today, resulted in the capsizing of the coastal safety boat, identified as Sahil Guvenlik 25. GAC added that the boat capsized was being removed to a safety zone by tugs. The incident led to a stoppage of shipping traffic in the Bosphorus waterway. The bulk carrier which took part in the collision is reportedly the Cook Island-flagged M/V Tolunay. According to AIS data provided by Marine Traffic, the 1995-built bulker, which is currently stopped in the area, was transiting from Istanbul to Odessa, Ukraine, at the time of the incident.
