GMS: Tankers to Return to Pakistani Yards from Next Month?

NGO Shipbreaking Platform Pakistans Gadani yards could start receiving tankers, with more stringent requirements, from next month, GMS, a cash buyer of ships for recycling cited market rumors. So far, Pakistan has only been able to focus on dry units, including containers, whilst the embargo on wet units remains in place following accidents on uncleaned FSU and LPG earlier this year. This might change, as tankers may soon be permitted to enter the yards with greater hot works requirements prior entry into Gadani, as mandated in both India and Bangladesh where rules for cutting a wet ship are far more stringent than many of the international gas free standards. GMS earlier informed that gas free for hot works standards means that all cargo / cargo residues, slops and sludges would have to be completely cleaned from all cargo and slop tanks, right down to the ladders, handrails and cargo pipelines.
