Gorgon LNG Plant Evacuated after Gas Leak

Chevron The workers at the Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Australia were evacuated following a gas leak at the site, Bloomberg cited the energy major Chevron Corporation. Despite the minor gas leak at the development, situated on Barrow Island off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the terminal is still scheduled to transfer a cargo of LNG onto a tanker in the coming days. The announcement follows the projects previous hurdle encountered in April this year, when Chevron Australia temporarily halted the LNG production due to mechanical issues with the propane refrigerant circuit on Train 1 at the plant site, the company earlier said. The first shipment of LNG from Gorgon was sent to Japan in March aboard the 2015-built LNG carrier Asia Excellence. The Gorgon Project, located off the northwest coast of Western Australia, is supplied from the Gorgon and Jansz-Io gas fields, situated within the Greater Gorgon area, between 130 km and 220 km off the northwest coast of Western Australia. The Chevron-operated project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Chubu Electric Power. World Maritime News Staff
