Grounded Greek Ferry Breaks Free

zoom The Greek ferry that ran aground last week at the island of Kasos has been refloated on Friday after two days of being stranded at the island. The ferry had 227 passengers on board and 55 crewmembers, who were all reported to be safe. The ro-pax ferry Vitsentzos Kornaros ran aground due to strong winds during manouvering attempts aimed at mooring the ship. The vessel broke free under its own power and has arrived in port Fry, Kasos, the Hellenic Coast Guard said. Once at the port, 64 passengers and nine trucks disembarked the vessel. The vessel was granted return to normal operations having underwent inspection for damages. The ferry Vitsentzos Kornaros, operated by Lane Lines maintains a connection between Piraeus, Kythera, Antikythera, Kissamos (Crete) and Gythion. World Maritime News Staff
