Hakutaka Joins MOLs Fleet

zoom Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has taken delivery of the coal carrier Hakutaka at its compatriot shipbuilder Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation. The vessel, which was jointly developed by Sanoyas Shipyard and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with its wide-beam/shallow-draft shape and various safety and energy-saving specifications, as described by MOL. The vessel features 235 m in length, 43 m in breadth and has a dead-weight tonnage of 104,819 mega tonnes. It is the 3rd vessel, coming after the Akatsuki, which was delivered in February 2014, and the Soma Maru, which was delivered in July 2014. Hakutaka will serve Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. The Hakutaka will play a central role in coal transportation for TEPCO thermal power plants under a new long-term consecutive voyage service contract, MOL said in a release.
