HHI Linked to LNG Carrier Order

zoomIllustration; Image Courtesy: HHI South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has received an order to construct a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, the countrys news site Yonhap News Agency reports. Although the terms of the deal have not been revealed, the contract for the construction of the 180,000 cbm vessel is estimated to be worth USD 193 million, Yonhap cited industry sources as saying. Other reports suggest that Norways shipping company Knutsen OAS Shipping has placed the order for the vessel. World Maritime News contacted HHI and Knutsen for more information on the matter, however, the parties are yet to reply. HHI seems to be off to a good start having booked orders for seven vessels. In January 2017, crude oil tanker operator DHT Holdings ordered two 318,000 dwt very large crude carriers (VLCCs) from HHI. Furthermore, Luxembourg-based short sea specialist Compagnie Luxembourgeoise d’Navigation (CLdN) RoRo SA placed an order for two 5,400 lane meter vessels at HHI shipyard at the beginning of February. Finally, in late-February, the shipbuilder received an order for the construction of two 300,000-ton VLCCs from Greek shipowner Enesel. World Maritime News Staff
