Hyundai Glovis Refuses to Use US-Registered Vessels

Hyundai Glovis South Korean logistics company Hyundai Glovis, a unit of auto giant Hyundai Motor Group, has rejected the proposals offered by the US government to use US-registered vessels, The Korea Herald cited undisclosed company sources. Namely, US officials paid a visit to Korea with an aim to discuss marine policies with South Koreas Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF). The representatives of Hyundai Glovis were present at a meeting held between the officials, where they were asked to use US vessels. The reasons behind the request was that these vessels often set sail on a return trip empty after unloading their cargo in South Korea. However, the US officials were once again turned down, as Hyundai Glovis said that using US-registered vessels would mean paying extra costs, according to The Korea Herald. The company has been offered the same proposal a number of times from last year. Hyundai Glovis, which currently operates 66 ships to export vehicles globally, has shipped around 200,000 cars to the US last year, a 31 percent share of a total 640,000 units exported to the nation.
