On 19th of August, 2014, the 151,000 DWT bulk carrier Smart ran aground in the east coast of South Africa after departing Richards Bay Coal Terminal with a full cargo of coal. Twenty-three crewmembers of the ship were rescued, but the 1996-built, 273-metre vessel suffered a structural failure amidships and broke into two. The Smit Amandla is now towing the wreck 30 miles off Richards Bay for scuttling. World Maritime News Staff; Image: Smit Amandla Marine
