LNG Croatia Opens Bidding Process for FSRU

zoomIllustration; Image Courtesy: LNG Croatia LNG Croatia, the project developer of the LNG import terminal on the Island of Krk in Croatia, has called for bids for the provision of a floating storage & regasification unit (FSRU). Bids were also invited for the design and construction of jetty, connecting gas pipeline and high-pressure installations for the FSRU. These include pigging station, water and drainage, auxiliary facilities and buildings. The deadline for the submission of the requests to participate is 2 p.m. CET, 29 September 2017. According to the project operator, the technical capacity of the floating terminal will depend on its technical characteristics, however, the maximum annual delivery of natural gas is expected to be 2,6 billion cubic meters in the first stage of the project. The call for bids comes on the back of seabed investigation works launched in August. The Croatian Government opted for a FSRU amid efforts aimed at speeding up the construction of its LNG terminal in the Northern Adriatic Sea which has been long overdue. A floating LNG terminal is expected to reduce the construction costs and take only two years to bring to fruition, instead of at least five years it is required to construct the terminal from scratch. Croatia’s first LNG import terminal is also being reviewed by the European Investment Bank. EIB is considering to finance approximately EUR 339 million, from the total cost set at EUR 678 million.
