Maersk Line and Huawei Form Carbon Pact

Maersk Line Danish container carrier Maersk Line and Chinese networking and telecommunications equipment and services company Huawei Technologies have signed a five-year carbon reduction pact. This agreement is the first of its kind for Maersk Line in Asia, and it integrates both companies’ sustainability commitments to reduce Huawei’s CO2 emissions per container transported with Maersk Line by 18% from 2016 to 2020. “For Maersk Line jointly signing a carbon pact is a milestone in our relationship with Huawei, Head of Maersk Line Greater China, Silvia Ding, said. The partnership enables transparency related to container transportation, ultimately moving the sustainability agenda forward in China. We are happy to contribute to Huawei’s ambitions to reduce emissions in their value chain, as well as to take our business relationship to the next level by bringing sustainability elements into purchasing decisions.” Maersk Line is driving similar agreements with other clients in China. This is with the purpose of leveraging on its investments in energy efficiency and carbon reductions and to create further opportunities to expand its business.
