Magellan Opens Port of Tynes Cruise Season

zoom The arrival of the new flag ship of Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) Magellan at the UK Port of Tynes Northumbrian Quay marked the start of the ports 2015 cruise season. This call is a part of Magellans maiden voyage, dubbed Maiden Solar Eclipse & Northern Lights Cruise, which started on March 15, three days after the ship was delivered to CMV. In its 2015 cruise season, the Port of Tyne will also see the first visit of Miami-based cruise operator Oceania Cruises operating two transit calls to the region with the Marina and the Nautica. Regent Seven Seas is visiting with the Seven Seas Voyager cruise on one transit call, and there will also be the inaugural call of Crystal Symphony and the return of Holland America Line operating a transit call with the Eurodam. The UK-based Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Cruise & Maritime Voyages are also extending their departures and destinations from the Port of Tyne and both are operating a number of transit calls for the first time. Susan Wear, Port of Tyne Director of Corporate Affairs, said: Cruise departures are growing with many more people choosing to start their holiday directly from the Port of Tyne and it is really good news that CMV and Fred. Olsen are both extending their departures to include new and exciting destinations like St. Petersburg, Morocco, Spain, and the Azores. The Port of Tyne has 27 cruise calls planned for 2015 and 32 scheduled for next year.
