MOL Boxship Saves 4 Castaways off Brazil zoom Tokyo-headquartered container carrier Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) reported that one of the container ships operated by the company rescued four castaways off Brazil on October 23. The Hong Kong-flagged MOL Growth received a request for assistance from Brazilian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre while sailing from the Port of Santos to Port of Itaguai, Brazil. The 5,605 TEU boxship immediately changed its course and headed towards the castaways who were on a life raft some 55 kilometers off Brazils coast. The castaways were rescued some 90 minutes after the 23-strong crew on board the 2012-built boxship received the request for assistance. The four survivors were turned over to relevant authorities at Port of Itaguai the same day. MOL did not disclose what happened to the survivors prior to the rescue.
