MOL Orders LNG Carrier from DSME

zoom South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) signed a contract today on construction of a 180, 000 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. DSME said that the LNG carrier would be chartered out to German energy supplier E.ON. The vessel, featuring 297.2 m in length and 46.4 m in width, is slated for delivery by DSMEs Okpo shipyard in 2018. The LNG carrier will boast DSMEs  partial re-liquefaction system designed to re-liquefy the vaporised gas and return it back to the containment system. Under the contract, MOL has an option to order an additional LNG carrier. The order is dependent on E.ONs trade volume. In January, South Korean shipbuilding giant concluded a deal with Korea Line Corporation and Hyundai LNG for construction of four LNG carriers. DSMEs orderbook stands at USD 1.4 billion year to date.
