MOL Takes Delivery of Newbuild Coal Carrier

zoom Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has today taken delivery of the coal carrier Shin Yahagi Maru at Imari Shipyard and Works of Namura Shipbuilding. The vessel, which was jointly developed by Namura Shipbuilding and MOL, will serve Chubu Electric Powers thermal power plants under a new long-term consecutive voyage service contract. According to MOL, the vessel is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with a wide-beam/shallow-draft configuration and wide range of advanced safety and energy-saving features. The vessel is so-called Hekinan MAX, featuring 250 meters length to maximize transport volume to the discharging port, Chubu Electric Powers Hekinan Thermal Power Plant. The new vessel succeeds the Yahagi Maru, a coal carrier that served Chubu Electric Power for 21 years starting in 1992.
