MSC, NITC Giants Clash in Singapore Strait

Shipspotting The Panama-flagged Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Dream II and containership MSC Alexandra collided in the Singapore Strait in the evening hours of August 3, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). As a result of the collision Dream II, owned by National Iranian Tanker Co (NITC), sustained damage to its bow, while MSC Alexandras port quarter hull was damaged. Additionally, MSC Alexandra, owned by Mediterranean Shipping (MSC), reported that ten empty containers fell overboard during the incident, four of which landed on the deck of Dream II, while the rest fell into the water. Both vessels are in stable condition and safely anchored in Singapore, MPA added. Prior to the incident, which occurred some 3 km South-East of Sebarok Island, MPAs Port Operations Control Centre provided traffic information and alerted the shipmasters of Dream II and MSC Alexandra of the risk of collision. Upon notification, MPA immediately issued navigation broadcast to warn vessels of the presence of floating containers in the vicinity of the incident site.
