NYK Line Takes Delivery of New Coal Carrier

NYK Line Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) took delivery of a new 90,781 dwt coal carrier, Shin Sekiyo, from Nagasaki-based shipyard Oshima Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. on January 15. After delivery, Shin Sekiyo, the successor to the first Sekiyo operated by NYK, will be assigned to transport coal mainly from Australia and Indonesia to power plants operated by Chugoku Electric Power, the company said in a release. Featuring a length of 235 meters and a width of 43 meters, Shin Sekiyo has a shallower draft which improves the vessels transportation efficiency to ports with a limited water depth. The delivery comes on the back of NYKs recently signed long-term charter deal for its seventh new wood-chip carrier with Japanese Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co. The carrier will be built by Oshima Shipbuilding and is expected to be handed over to the company in 2018.
