Odfjells Oil Tanker Grounds Due to Steering Failure

Odfjell A steering failure aboard the 2004-built oil tanker Bow Singapore has caused the vessel to run aground outside Australias Geelong harbour, the owner of the vessel, Norway-based shipping company Odfjell, confirmed to World Maritime News. Odfjells representative said that the failure caused the Singapore-flagged ship to hit, what the pilot described as soft mud outside the harbour. There are no indications of breach to the hull, the company said, adding that the steering has been repaired. According to Odfjell, the ship is stable and there are no other technical problems. A tug is scheduled to pull the vessel off the mud with the tide around 3:30 local time, and the 10,867 cbm tanker is subsequently set to continue its voyage. World Maritime News Staff
