Panamanian Boxship Catches Fire off Vietnam

zoom A fire broke out on board a Panamanian-flagged containership Golden 168 on Sunday morning while the ship was docking off Vung Tau, southern Vietnam. The fire reportedly broke out in cargo hold No. 1 at about 03:00 am, Xinhua news agency reported. Local coast guard and fire-fighting forces were rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire later in the day. The 20 crew members of the ship, loaded with 6,600 tons of coconut flour on board, were taken ashore. There were no injuries or pollution reported. Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. The 9,106-dwt ship, built in 2008, was on its way from Singapore to Hong Kong when the fire occurred. Unconfirmed reports say that the boxship was making a stop in Vung Tau for engine-related repairs.
