Petronas FLNG1 Reaches 95 Pct Completion

Petronas Petronas first floating LNG facility (PFLNG1) being constructed by South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in Okpo has reached a 95% overall construction progress and will come on stream in 2016, according to Malaysias Petronas. All project updates of the PFLNG1 will be officially announced by Petronas in due course, the company said. PFLNG1, also known as PFLNG SATU, will enable the liquefaction, production and offloading and processing of natural gas in the Kanowit gas field, 180 kilometers offshore Bintulu, Sarawak. PFLNG1 is designed to feature capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (mtpa). Petronas has appointed Technip and DSME as a consortium to jointly develop the PFLNG1 facility, which boasts 365 metres in length, 60 metres in width and 33 metres in height. DSME laid the keel for the floating LNG facility in January 2014. The floating LNG facility is expected to change the landscape of the LNG business where the liquefaction, production, storage and offloading processes of LNG – previously only possible at onshore plants – will now be able to be carried out hundreds of kilometres away from land and closer to the offshore gas fields.
